Record revenue and stronger profitability
Revenue from operations increased from ₹30,172.97 crore in the year-ago quarter to ₹38,279.85 crore. The company also recorded sequential growth of 8.61% over the June 2026 quarter. The scale of the increase reflects the group’s broad international manufacturing footprint and the integration of businesses serving multiple automotive customers.
EBITDA rose faster than revenue, increasing 34.62% to ₹3,629 crore. This points to an improvement in operating earnings, although margins, customer mix, raw-material costs, foreign-exchange movements and integration expenses remain important factors to monitor.
Booked business reaches US$106 billion
Motherson said its booked business reached an all-time high of US$106 billion. Booked business represents programmes and customer awards expected to generate work over their respective production lifecycles. It is not the same as current-period sales, confirmed cash receipts or guaranteed profit. The timing of production launches, customer schedules, programme execution and currency movements will influence how these awards translate into reported revenue.
Expansion and investment plans
The company reported capital expenditure of ₹3,585 crore during the first half of FY2026–27, equivalent to 56% of EBITDA. Its stated full-year capital expenditure plan is approximately ₹6,000 crore, with a tolerance of 10% above or below that amount.
During the quarter, one plant was operationalised and five expansions were announced. The group said 17 facilities were at different stages of completion. It also announced an acquisition of a special-purpose vehicle to establish a new wiring-harness facility in Paraguay, with capitalisation of up to €10 million. These investments are intended to support customer programmes and expand manufacturing capacity, but execution and utilisation will determine their returns.
Balance sheet and integration remain important
Motherson reported a leverage ratio of 0.8 times, within its stated financial policy limit of 2.5 times. The company is also integrating acquired businesses and has said it is working to identify operational synergies across the group. Investors will need to assess whether those synergies improve productivity and returns without creating excessive costs or execution risks.
What investors should watch
- Whether revenue growth continues across the group’s customer and geographic mix.
- EBITDA margins and the conversion of higher sales into operating cash flow.
- Execution of the US$106 billion booked-business pipeline and timing of programme launches.
- Capital expenditure, new plant utilisation and returns on expansion investments.
- Integration of acquired businesses and the group’s leverage position.
- Automotive production trends, customer concentration and foreign-exchange movements.
Conclusion
Samvardhana Motherson delivered double-digit growth in revenue, EBITDA and profit in Q2 FY27, alongside record booked business. The results show strong operating momentum, but the quality of future growth will depend on programme execution, capacity utilisation, margins, cash generation and disciplined integration of acquisitions.
