India’s mutual-fund industry entered November with record monthly SIP contributions and stronger equity-scheme inflows in the latest official monthly data, even as the broader market’s assets under management remained below August’s level. The Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) has published data through September 2026; October’s monthly figures were not yet available on 7 November.
September 2026: key mutual-fund numbers
- SIP contributions: ₹32,490 crore, a new monthly high, according to AMFI.
- Equity-oriented scheme inflows: ₹38,306.55 crore, compared with ₹29,328.62 crore in August, based on AMFI data reported by Moneycontrol.
- Industry average AUM: ₹87.09 lakh crore for September; month-end AUM was ₹82.64 lakh crore.
- Mutual-fund folios: 28.62 crore at 30 September, including about 21.82 crore in equity, hybrid and solution-oriented schemes.
SIPs and equity funds show continued participation
The record SIP contribution points to continued monthly investment activity through systematic plans. It is a contribution measure: it does not mean every SIP account was newly opened, nor does it show the net flow across the entire mutual-fund industry. AMFI reported 1,088.9 lakh outstanding SIP accounts in September, with 1,006.47 lakh contributing accounts.
Equity-oriented schemes also received more net money than in August. That aggregate figure covers several categories and does not show that every equity-fund segment or scheme attracted inflows. Investors should distinguish industry-wide flows from the performance, risk and suitability of any individual fund.
Assets under management need context
AMFI reported month-end industry AUM of ₹82.64 lakh crore and average AUM of ₹87.09 lakh crore for September. These are different measures: month-end AUM is a point-in-time figure, while average AUM is measured across the month. Market movements, investor subscriptions and redemptions can all change assets under management, so AUM growth alone does not measure investment returns or net investor demand.
What the Nifty 50 rally means for fund investors
The Nifty 50 closed at 25,030.35 on 6 November, up 2.01% for the session. The index gained about 8.6% over the week ended 6 November, its strongest weekly rise since February 2021, according to the market review published by BoldVoices.in. A sharp rise in benchmark shares can lift equity-fund valuations, but it does not guarantee that inflows will continue or that all funds will track the index.
Company results are also driving individual-stock moves. Recent BoldVoices coverage includes Q2 FY27 results from Tata Steel, Samvardhana Motherson, Divi’s Laboratories, Titan and the week’s market and foreign-investor trends. Read each result in context: revenue, margins, cash flow, debt, exceptional items and management outlook can matter as much as the headline profit number.
What to watch next
- AMFI’s October 2026 monthly data, including category-wise flows, SIP activity and AUM.
- Whether equity-fund inflows remain broad-based or concentrate in a few categories.
- Debt-fund subscriptions and redemptions, which can move total-industry flows sharply from month to month.
- How Nifty 50 companies’ Q2 results, guidance and valuations compare with the market’s recent advance.
- SEBI and exchange announcements affecting mutual-fund products, disclosures, costs or investor safeguards.
