Titan Q2 Profit More Than Doubles, but Jewellery Sales Growth Slows

Titan Company’s consolidated net profit more than doubled in the September quarter, but a one-time accounting gain contributed substantially to the headline increase. The Indian jewellery and consumer-goods group reported profit of ₹2,393 crore for the second quarter of FY2026-27, compared with ₹1,120 crore a year earlier. That exceeded the ₹1,473 crore average analyst estimate cited by Reuters.

After excluding a ₹671 crore gain from revaluing a financial liability, profit rose 54% year on year to ₹1,722 crore. The adjusted comparison still showed strong growth, while making clear that the reported increase of more than 100% was not entirely generated by the company’s operating businesses.

Jewellery revenue grew, but the pace eased

Sales of products and services increased 23.5% to ₹20,337 crore. Titan’s core jewellery business grew sales 21% during the quarter, slower than the 39% growth recorded in the preceding quarter. The company had previously said demand was healthy through much of the September quarter but softened toward its end as the festive calendar shifted some purchases into the December quarter.

Product mix helped support the jewellery business. Sales of higher-margin studded jewellery rose more than 30%, while lower-margin gold-coin sales declined. Titan reported a 14% operating margin for its Indian jewellery business; Reuters said the margin was 10.7% after excluding a customs-duty gain. This customs-duty effect is separate from the ₹671 crore financial-liability revaluation gain in consolidated profit.

Gold prices are changing how customers buy

Consumers have been spending more even as they buy less jewellery by weight. The World Gold Council data cited by Reuters showed Indian gold-jewellery demand volume fell 20% year on year in the quarter, while consumer spending rose 16%. Higher prices can lift the rupee value of sales, but they also make affordability and the number of grams purchased important measures of underlying demand.

For Titan, a stronger mix of diamond-studded pieces and a softer trend in gold coins helped shape the quarter. The shift gives the company a way to protect margins when gold is expensive, although customer preferences and festive timing can move results between quarters.

A strong headline with several moving parts

Titan’s results combine a one-time accounting gain, a separate customs-duty effect on jewellery margins, higher-value product sales and a slower pace of jewellery growth than in the prior quarter. The 54% increase in profit after excluding the financial-liability revaluation provides a more comparable view of earnings growth, while the 21% jewellery sales increase shows demand remained positive even as growth moderated.

The coming quarter will show how much of the demand postponed by the later festive calendar shifts into the December period. Gold prices, jewellery volumes, product mix and the continuation of duty-related effects will also influence how sales growth translates into operating profit.
