Dulquer Salmaan’s Malayalam fantasy-action thriller I’m Game began streaming on JioHotstar on Friday, November 6, giving the film a second release window less than three months after it opened in theatres. The platform is offering the title in five languages—Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi—bringing it to audiences beyond its original-language market. The release and language lineup were confirmed by the platform, and the film was available to stream on launch day.
A gambler’s calculations collide with the unexpected
Salmaan plays Dan John, a wealthy, high-risk gambler who approaches betting as a system he can master. The story places him on a collision course with Vicky, a professional cricketer played by Antony Varghese. A sudden accident upends Dan’s carefully controlled life and pulls him into events that move beyond the crime-and-betting setup. The official synopsis describes his struggle to regain control, while reviews of the theatrical release note that a hand transplant brings an uncanny, supernatural dimension into the story.
That genre shift is central to the film’s identity. I’m Game begins with a contemporary world of money, gambling and cricket, then layers in fantasy, action and revenge-thriller elements. The film asks viewers to follow Dan as an apparent accident disrupts his assumptions about luck and control. The premise is deliberately heightened, with the supernatural turn taking the plot away from a conventional sports or betting drama.
Ensemble cast and technical team
Alongside Salmaan and Varghese, the cast includes Kayadu Lohar, Mysskin, Kathir, Samyuktha Viswanathan, Vinay Forrt, Jayasudha and Shyamaprasad. Mysskin, the Tamil filmmaker and actor, appears among the central supporting performers, while Kayadu Lohar and Samyuktha Viswanathan are also part of the ensemble. The film is directed by Nahas Hidayath, whose earlier feature was the Malayalam action film RDX.
Salmaan also produced I’m Game with Jom Varghese under the Wayfarer Films banner. The screenplay was written by Sajeer Baba, Ismail Aboobacker and Bilal Moidu, with Hidayath credited for the story. Jakes Bejoy composed the music, Jimshi Khalid handled cinematography and Chaman Chakko edited the film. Reviews of the theatrical version frequently discussed the film’s stylised action and production design alongside its ambitious mixture of genres.
Theatrical reviews were divided on the execution
The film opened in cinemas on September 3, marking Salmaan’s return to Malayalam cinema after a gap of nearly three years. Its reception was mixed. Reviews described the fantasy-action idea as promising but pointed to uneven execution; other critics found the central concept distinctive but felt the film did not fully deliver on its gamble. The differing assessments reflect the challenge of balancing a supernatural premise with a familiar revenge-thriller framework.
Its JioHotstar debut gives I’m Game a new opportunity to find viewers who missed its theatrical run, and lets audiences sample the film in dubbed versions as well as Malayalam. The five-language availability is particularly notable for a story rooted in Malayalam cinema that combines a local ensemble and director with broadly familiar action, fantasy and thriller conventions. How the film performs on streaming will offer a fresh measure of its reach after the divided cinema response.
