India has successfully shipped the second battery of its supersonic BrahMos missile system to the Philippines, strengthening its role as a major defence exporter in the Indo-Pacific.
🔹 Key Highlights:
- This is part of a $375 million deal signed in 2022, India’s biggest-ever defence export contract.
- The BrahMos system, jointly developed by India and Russia, is one of the fastest cruise missiles in the world.
- The missile can travel at speeds of Mach 2.8 to 3.0 and has a range of 290–450 km.
- This delivery marks another milestone in India’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Act East’ policies, promoting regional security and cooperation.

🔹 Strategic Importance:
- The Philippines is deploying the BrahMos to bolster coastal defense, particularly in the South China Sea, where tensions continue to rise.
- This deal could pave the way for more Southeast Asian nations—like Vietnam and Indonesia—to procure BrahMos or similar systems.
