“Hating our bodies is something that we learn, and it sure as heck is something that we can unlearn.”
Body shaming- a concept that has different definitions to different people. Realistic for some, while some excuse it with, “it is what it is.”
Well, indeed, it is what it is. But the way you say it matters.
For instance, if someone with a certain amount of weight gets two comments, one being “Hey! Look how fat you are!” with a sarcastic laugh and the other one being “Hey! Your chubby face looks so cute” with an appreciative and loving smile, one can easily sense the difference.
Now it’s our choice if we wanna be the first ones or the second ones. But for a fact, the decision must depend upon what we would want to hear in case we step into their shoes.
I remember times I’ve seen people crying over their appearances after getting bullied by people for their weight, complexion and what not. A girl who once found her tan skin pretty, now started hating it… A guy who once found his chubby face cute, suddenly got insecure if he fits in the beauty standards of society or not.
My question is, what is exactly this beauty standard? A slim one is too skinny, a chubby one is too fat, a tan skin is “too” dark, white one is too pale, and these are the only ones I remember for now… The amount of insecurity we spread among people is unimaginable.
Can’t we create a world where everyone feels comfortable and confident in the way they are and look up to themselves in a better & respectful way.
As Selena Gomez said, “I realize everybody wants what they don’t have. But at the end of the day, what you have inside is much more beautiful than what’s on the outside.”
