📍 Where is this country?
Burkina Faso is a small country located in West Africa. It is surrounded by several nations – Mali, Niger, Ghana, Togo, and Côte d’Ivoire. It has no sea or ocean, only land on all sides.
🌿 What’s the climate and land like?
Most of the land here is dry, though some parts get rainfall, mainly from June to October. The landscape is mostly flat with open plains and small hills.
🏙 Capital – Ouagadougou
Though the name may sound unusual, Ouagadougou is the capital city. It is known as a cultural hub and hosts major African film festivals, attracting artists and filmmakers from across the continent.

The population consists of various ethnic groups like the Mossi (the largest group), Fulani, Bobo, and others.
French is the official language used in government, but people commonly speak local languages like Mooré and Dioula in daily life.

Muslims, Christians, and followers of traditional African faiths live here. People are generally tolerant, and communities co-exist peacefully without much religious conflict.

📜 A Bit of History
Earlier, this country was called “Upper Volta,” but in 1984, it was renamed “Burkina Faso,” meaning “Land of Honest People.”
Currently, the country is under military rule, and in recent years, it has faced major challenges like terrorist attacks and violence.
🌾 What do people do for a living?
Most people depend on farming. They grow millet, maize, rice, and cotton.
Gold mining is also a major source of national income. Despite that, poverty remains widespread, especially in remote areas where schools and hospitals are hard to find.
🪘 Culture and Festivals
The culture here is vibrant – people wear traditional clothes, dance, sing, and celebrate with colorful masks.
Every year, a harvest festival is celebrated on December 11th, which brings life and joy to villages across the country.
