Call for Investigation
The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) is demanding a thorough and independent probe into the death of Tulku Hungkar Dorje, a Tibetan religious leader, who reportedly died in Chinese custody in Vietnam.
Circumstances of Death
Dorje had allegedly fled to Vietnam in 2024 to escape political persecution in China. He was arrested in Ho Chi Minh City in March 2025 and died shortly after under suspicious conditions.
Allegations of Pressure and Harassment
Reports indicate Dorje had been pressured by Chinese authorities to support their appointed Panchen Lama and faced ongoing threats for resisting.
CTA’s Response
The CTA has urged Vietnamese authorities to release Dorje’s body to his monastery for traditional rites and raised concerns about China’s growing cross-border repression.
