President Donald Trump has indicated to his inner circle that Elon Musk will soon step back from his role in the administration to focus on his business ventures. Trump expressed satisfaction with Musk’s contributions, stating, “He’s got a big company to run… At some point he’s going to be going back. He wants to. I’d keep him as long as I could keep him.”

Musk’s involvement with the government began before the election when he endorsed Trump unequivocally. He was appointed to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), where he implemented measures to reduce government spending and streamline operations. However, his tenure has been marked by controversy, with some administration insiders viewing him as unpredictable and a potential political liability.

Recently, Musk’s support for conservative judge Brad Schimel in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race resulted in a significant loss, further fueling concerns about his political influence. Additionally, Tesla, Musk’s flagship company, has experienced a decline in stock value amid global protests against his governmental involvement.

While Musk is expected to step back from his formal role, he may continue to serve as an informal adviser to the administration. One senior official noted that those anticipating Musk’s complete departure are “fooling themselves.”

Musk’s status as a special government employee, limited to 130 days, is nearing its end, aligning with the timing of his anticipated transition back to his business endeavors.
