The Telangana High Court has ordered a halt to land leveling and tree cutting in Kancha Gachibowli, Hyderabad, following a public interest litigation (PIL) alleging unauthorized activities. The division bench, comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar, directed the authorities to maintain the status quo until further notice.

The PIL, filed by environmental activist P. Suresh, contends that the ongoing land development lacks necessary approvals and poses a threat to the area’s ecological balance. The petitioner highlighted that the region is home to various flora and fauna, emphasizing the environmental significance of preserving the existing landscape.

In response, the court issued notices to the Telangana State Pollution Control Board, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, seeking their explanations regarding the alleged unauthorized activities. The bench scheduled the next hearing for April 15, 2025, and instructed the respondents to submit their counter-affidavits by then.

This directive underscores the judiciary’s commitment to environmental conservation and the enforcement of regulations governing land development activities. The court’s intervention aims to prevent potential ecological damage and ensure that any land development in Kancha Gachibowli adheres to legal and environmental standards.
