Apple is reportedly working on an innovative feature for its Health app—an ‘AI doctor’ that could change how users interact with their health data and receive medical advice.

What Could the ‘AI Doctor’ Do?

  1. Personalized Health Insights: The AI could analyze user data, such as activity levels, heart rate, and sleep patterns, to provide tailored health recommendations.
  2. Symptom Checker: Users may be able to input symptoms and receive preliminary assessments, which could help them determine whether to seek professional medical advice.
  3. Medication Management: The AI could remind users to take medications, track their adherence, and interact with other health data to minimize potential drug interactions.
  4. Emergency Alerts: In critical situations, the AI could alert emergency services or provide users with life-saving tips based on their detected health conditions.
  5. Telehealth Integration: The feature might enable users to book virtual appointments directly from the Health app, facilitating seamless communication with healthcare providers.

Apple is reportedly training its AI agent using data gathered from its in-house physicians, with intentions to eventually incorporate external doctors as well. Under the leadership of Tim Cook, the company is also planning to establish a facility near Oakland, California, where doctors can create video content for the app. They are on the lookout for a “great doctor personality” to serve as a host for the revamped Health app.

While Gurman does not provide specific details about this doctor personality, it appears to be an effort to introduce a personal touch to the app, akin to how Google and OpenAI have utilized human artists to develop voices for their chatbots.

The new health app is reportedly a top priority for Sumbul Desai, the physician overseeing Apple’s health team. Additionally, the company’s chief operating officer, Jeff Williams, is closely involved in the project.

Gurman suggests that development is “in full steam,” with the updated app potentially launching as early as iOS 19.4. Apple is set to announce iOS 19 during its WWDC 2025 event from June 9-13, with a stable update expected to accompany the iPhone 17 release in September.

The iOS 18.4 update is scheduled for release on April 1 (not an April Fool’s joke), and if the work on the Health app overhaul progresses as anticipated, we may witness the debut of the company’s AI Doctor around the same time next year.

Potential Release Date

While Apple has not confirmed a specific launch date for this feature, industry insiders speculate that it could be introduced in a future iOS update, possibly aligning with Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) or the iPhone’s next major release cycle.

As Apple continues to innovate in the health technology space, the introduction of an ‘AI doctor’ could significantly enhance the user experience and promote better health management among iPhone users. Keep an eye out for official announcements from Apple as this exciting development unfolds.
