Woman- one of the strongest pillars of the society yet struggling to adjust herself according to the societal norms.
Every other night, the silent streets horrify her, those drunk eyes terrify her soul, and those creepy touches make her uncomfortable. But, as a matter of fact, when she voices out, no-one’s there to listen to her. That unimaginable pain those monsters cause her is neglected by the society. And guess what, it is even said that if something wrong has happened with her, it’s the girl who has lost her dignity.
What about that devil, who did this to her? Is his act being justified by objectifying that woman’s clothes, or the fact that she was out? Even if she was returning from work? The worst part is that the victim’s parents are held responsible for sending their girls out at night. But the question is, who is really responsible? Those who let their girls work with a dream to see them financially independent or those who couldn’t raise their sons with the right upbringing.
Why do those deserted streets terrify her? Why do those eyes shiver her soul? And why is it that if she reaches her home safely at night, it is a huge achievement for her? Why is it that the heart terrifies and heads bow down in shame seeing her existence being shattered who is given the status of goddess?
My question is, for how long we are supposed to continue with this victim blaming and why can’t we, as a society, unite and stand up for the ones in need.
Be it buses, streets, shops or even schools, the fact sucks that those creepy eyes are always looking for an opportunity to fulfil their desires by treating a woman like a mere tissue paper, used and then thrown away.
No matter how much progressive we are as a state, as a country or as a world, if something wrong has happened with a woman, all the progress of humanity has failed.
This urge is to all the people out there that regretting for someone is not enough.
Abraham Lincoln once said, “The best way to predict future is to create it”. So, that’s the thing, if you want change, you need to bring change. Beginning with just a little step, and it might create a safe space for someone’s daughter.
Let us all begin with little steps and work towards creating a safe and better future for our upcoming generations.
