“Masculine and feminine roles are not biologically fixed, but socially constructed.”

Masculinity- a term which has been misinterpreted for thousands of years in our society. When a guy cries, he is asked to be a “real man” and shut up as crying is considered to be a sign of weakness, or for some people, feminine… What does that even mean to be a “real man”, a dumb statue who’s not even allowed to tell what he feels?

Well, is crying actually a weakness? Actually, NO! Infact, it is actually very courageous of a man to cry in order to release his stress, even after being aware of the fact of how people around him might consider him.

Why is it that when a guy goes through an emotional breakdown, he needs to think twice before expressing himself with the fear of being judged by the society? Is that the equality we talk about?

The question is, why is everything so stereotyped to genders that even after so much of technological advancements, people are still hesitant to express themselves and voice out for their depressing conditions? Is it only the technological advancement which is important and not the mental one? What would we as a society achieve if we have hundreds of glass buildings and robots around us but at the same time, the men in our lives, be it a father, a brother, a friend, a boyfriend or a husband still finding themselves alone during their emotional struggles since they are made so hesitant to ask for a shoulder to cry or a person to be their pillar of support without judging them?

Let’s break these stereotypes and celebrate every definition of a person, leading towards a world where people around us feel free to express themselves and celebrate themselves the way they are.

As very well said by Emma Watson, “Gender equality not only liberates women, but also men from prescribed gender stereotypes.”
